Residents are being encouraged to keep an eye out for new bin collection calendars which are due to hit doormats district-wide later this week.
The four-page leaflet gives households dates for the next 12-month cycle of waste and recycling collections, beginning at the start of June until the end of May 2020. It also includes details on 2019 festive collection arrangements including changes for Christmas Day and Boxing Day properties plus an extra seasonal recycling collection for all homes.
Alongside the new calendars, residents can look up their new collection days by typing in their postcode in the search bar of the Council’s website at www.daventrydc.gov.uk
Those with mobile phones or tablets can also check collections and set reminder alerts by downloading the popular free Daventry District Council app, which is available from Google Play and the Apple Store.
Twelve months on and the new service has boosted recycling rates, thanks to the efforts of residents. The first six months saw a 65% increase in food waste collected and 20% more recycling collected, with the amount of rubbish in black bins reducing by 28%. Over 20,000 homes also signed up to receive the garden waste service in 2018/19, which starts again for its second year this month – residents can renew their subscription for the year ahead (which runs from 1 June 2019 to 31 May 2020) at a cost of £36 per bin at www.daventrydc.gov.uk.
Councillor Jo Gilford, Daventry District Council’s Environment Portfolio Holder said: “Since the new collections service was introduced last June, we’ve been really impressed by how residents have stepped up their efforts to recycle more of their rubbish. With the national spotlight on excessive waste in the environment, our District has a strong track record of embracing waste and recycling changes and we’re proud of the way residents have adapted.”
