The international charity The Associated Country Women of the World is supported by Women's Institutes around the world.
In April each year women around the world come together to walk in recognition of rural women and the challenges that they face. The distance of the walk does not matter. It may be that you walk across the living room or go further afield.
In Braunston a group of friends came together to walk together and to eat cake for the charity! We met up at 10am for refreshments before going on an interesting 2 mile walk through Braunston and along the canal towpaths. Good chat was had along the way as we all got to know each other and found out how we came to be here. More walkers arrived in the afternoon for a 5 mile walk across the fields and also enjoyed cake and a comfortable rest afterwards.
We were all pleased to be walking, as the weather was not the best so we all knew we probably would not have ventured out without the day's Women Walk The World focus.
As a result of this day and one WI member completing a swimming challenge during April we were able to send £389 to support women's projects that have requested funds to further their projects to improve the lives of women in rural areas. See the website https://www.acww.org.uk/projects.html
