Braunston Open Gardens 2021 Breaks All Records

Thank you for supporting our Open Gardens event in July.

There was plenty to see on 4th July when 22 gardens opened to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Visitors arrived all day from the village, the county, neighbouring counties and as far afield as Preston, Birmingham and London. Fortunately, the weather was kind to us and we avoided the heavy rain storm that fell on Flecknoe in the afternoon. We added to the funds raised by the gardeners organising plant stalls, refreshments and quizzes.

The beautiful gardens provided peaceful havens as well as ideas about how to create colourful, shady, productive, potted, wildlife, restful, playful, scented, intriguing and calming gardens with a wonderful range of planting ideas to admire, photograph and discuss with the owners. Oh, and also some sheep!

On the day we celebrated village businesses selling food and drink by promoting them as places to stop along the way. A special thank you to Avril and all the staff at Gongoozler’s Rest Café where donations for Macmillan Cancer Support were given for every hot drink sold. We were also delighted that Braunston School Gardening Club joined us for the first time this year. Their vegetable plots and flowers looked wonderful and they too gave a donation from their refreshment and plant sales.

After a wonderful day chatting to people in our gardens or guiding people at the Village Hall Welcome Desk, we were delighted to discover that we raised over £2700 for Macmillan Cancer Support, a record breaking year!

The BVGA Committee would like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work both before and during the event.
