Rats, Ropes and Revolution
We have a new show to be performed at this year’s Historic Boat Rally and Festival. In a burst of alliterative madness I have called it Rats, Ropes and Revolution. We are very grateful for the financial support of Tim Coghlan (Braunston Marina) in bringing this show to the Marina on Thursday 22nd June.
It is part of celebrating the 100-year anniversary of Braunston Boatmen’s Strike. There’s lots written about the strike– the role the union played, FMC’s dastardly pay cuts, 50-60 boats in Braunston, an influx of children to the local school, but nothing about what it might have been like to be a boatwoman in the midst of that. A woman used to being on the move, managing her family, meals, shopping, washing, cooking, steering, sewing, knitting… what was 14 weeks at a standstill like for her?
In an exiting new collaboration with long time boater, musician and song writer, Janul, this new show explores how Eliza, a woman on a working boat, might have felt to be at the heart of that historic strike.

Fancy a go at doing drama – or know someone who does?
We are running free drama workshops as part of our 2023 community theatre project. We had some try out sessions in May but the workshops proper start this coming Monday 5th June. Again I know you may be nowhere near Northamptonshire but if you are you are very welcome to join in. Each workshop is standalone so you can just come to one, or build skills over 6 weeks.
