The seven strong crew that turned out on bank holiday weekend were halted minutes from completing the painting of the handrails at lock 3. At 10pm a check on the weather forcast had showed a window of opportunity until 1pm when a 30% chance of rain was predicted. The team decided the risk was low enough and commenced with the preparation and painting. High boat traffic caused delays at times but that was expected and when the lock gates were not accessable the team turned to lock edging to make best use of their time. The rain arrived against the odds around 12:30 just before the last rails were completed. Painting may have ceased but lock edging continued such was the enthusiasm of the team with a vow the job would be completed on a more hospitable day.
