October tug marathon 16 Nov 2020 Thirteen adhoc task parties over 24 days

Despite the two scheduled task parties being cancelled this month BCS have done 13 adhoc days attended by 12 volunteers (limited to 6 maximum per task party) totalling 337 volunteer hours.
The milestones above lock 6 and at the marina were painted. The missing 1/2 mile and 3/4 mile markers were searched for with the help of Genine and her husband from the local detectorist society but they could not be found. BCS are looking into reinstating these by having them recast.
Tug 212 & flat were moved to Braunston from the Northampton arm to facilitate various offside and onside tasks. These included :-

  • Offside maintenance cut opposite the Stophouse and Marina entrance.
  • Strimming the junction island.
  • Onside & offside maintenance cut from bridge 89 to the junction.
  • Strimming adjacent to steps leading up to bridge 90 (A45).
  • All arisings from the above tasks were stacked ready for chipping at the junction waterpoint.
  • Offside maintenance cut from the junction to lock 6.
  • Offside / Onside maintenance cut from lock 6 to tunnel entrance.

Whilst moving the tug to Norton Junction the vegetation either side of bridge 7 was also cut back. The tug & flat were returned to Gayton yard the following day.
